Want To Win Some Yankees DVDs??

Alright, who wants some free stuff? Scroll way to the bottom of this entry to see the contest details and how you can win one of 5 Essential Games Of Yankee Stadium DVD Box Sets. If you want to read any of my new/recent Yankee posts, scroll down the page and you'll find them.

Some of you may remember that I gave away 5 copies of the Yankeeography DVD Box Set last year. Now, thanks to the good people at A&E Video, I have 5 copies of the Essential Games Of Yankee Stadium DVD Box Set to give away. For those not familiar with this box set or how it came to be, here's a brief overview: Readers of Yankees.com voted on what classic games played at Yankee Stadium from 1976-2003 they wanted released on DVD. The top 5 were chosen, along with a bonus 1 from the producers and are part of this box set. The 6 games that were chosen are:

1976 ALCS™ Game 5 vs. Kansas City Royals -- Chris Chambliss’ walk-off home run sends the Yankees to their first World Series since 1964.

1977 World Series Game 6 vs. Los Angeles Dodgers -- Reggie Jackson’s historic three-home-run-game propels the Bronx Bombers™ to another World Series Championship.

1995 ALDS Game 2 vs. Seattle Mariners -- This 15-inning drama ended with Jim Leyritz’ walk-off home run and featured home runs from Don Mattingly, Paul O’Neill and Ruben Sierra. With 31/3 innings in relief by a young Mariano Rivera who notched the win.

1996 World Series Game 6 vs. Atlanta Braves -- After New York lost the first two games of the 1996 World Series, they won the next four and finished with a Game 6 celebration that shook Yankee Stadium with delight.

2001 World Series Game 4 vs. Arizona Diamondbacks -- History unfolded when Tino Martinez hit a 2-out, bottom of the 9th, two-run homer to tie the game. Then in the 10th, “Mr. November” Derek Jeter’s game-winning home run ended another remarkable victory.

2003 ALCS Game 7 vs. Boston Red Sox -- With a World Series appearance at stake, aces on the mound, and a white knuckles everywhere, Aaron Boone stroked the game-winning home run to seal the Yankees 11-inning victory.

I'm a little bummed that some of the games I voted for didn't make the cut. Pretty much the only one that did was game 7 of the 2003 ALCS. I had also voted for Cone's perfect game, Wells' perfect game, Jeter's "dive" game against Boston, and the 1st game played after Munson died. I'm not sure why people voted for Reggie's 3 HR game or the 2001 WS game against the D-backs as those are on other sets. Then again, it's fan voting, why should I be surprised. Regardless though, I've been waiting for this set to be released.

If you're like me, you're probably pretty bummed that the Yankees season and there pretty much aren't many reasons left to watch. So here's what I'm going to do to make the final games have some meaning to us Yankee fans. I have 5 copies to giveaway and there are 5 series left to play, I'm going to give 1 away per series. Each contest will have something to do with each series. For example, one might be to predict the # of runs and hits the Yankees will total against the Orioles. Things like that. I'm going to post all 5 contests at once so people can submit guesses for all 5 at once, or 4 if they read this after the series has started, and so on. You can only win once, so if you win the 1st contest, I'll overlook your guesses for all remaining contests. And we're all on the honor system, so please only enter once. Here's what you need to do to enter:

  • E-mail your guesses to me at the e-mail address listed in the upper left under "contact me"
  • 1 guess per person
  • Leave a comment to let me know that you submitted your guesses along with your name (first name and initial)
  • Make sure to put your name in the comment if you're posting it as an anonymous user, so I know who is who and can match them up with your e-mail
  • There is no need to leave the guesses in the comments--this will negate the "price is right" strategy
  • The deadline for each question will be the first pitch of the first game of the series. If you miss the start of the series, you can still submit guesses for any series that has yet to start. Get your guesses in before the 1st pitch of the 1st game is thrown and you're good

All answers will be in the form of a #. Winner will be closest to the # without going over. In the event of a tie, the winner will be chosen at random from all winning guesses. All guesses need to be submitted before the specific series starts. You can submit guesses at any time for any series that hasn't started yet. And again, e-mail your guesses to me at the e-mail address in the upper left under "contact me" AND leave a comment that you submitted guesses along with your name (first name and initial). It's very important to put your name in the comment. Good luck and here are the 5 contests and remember it's for the whole series not just 1 game:

  1. How many total runs and hits will the Yankees have in their 3 games against the Rays?
  2. How many total strikeouts will the Yankee pitchers have in their 4 games against the White Sox?
  3. How many total extra base hits, walks and stolen bases will the Yankees have in their 3 games against the Orioles?
  4. What will be the total combined attendance for their 3 game series in Toronto? (attendance figure will be taken from the yahoo.com box score)
  5. What will the Yankees team batting average be for their 3 game series against Boston?

The person that guesses the correct number for the corresponding questions, or comes closest to without going over will win. Any ties will be broken by random drawing of all those who are correct or tied for closest to without going over. You can only win once, so if you win the DVD for question 1, you won't be eligible for questions 2-5. Win the DVD for question 2, and you can't win for questions 3-5, and so on. I am going to post each person's guesses for each series shortly after the first pitch of the series is thrown.

  • The deadline for each question will be up to first pitch for the first game of the series. If you miss the start of the series, you can still submit guesses for any series that has yet to start. Get your guesses in before the 1st pitch of the 1st game is thrown and you're good

Thanks and good luck!

Dan and Dave--I have your guesses. I deleted them from the comment section in hopes to avoid the "price is right" strategy.
